With other competitors announcing new smartphone every then and now, Sony can be seen picking up the pace with a whole new line of Xperia smartphones over the past few months. What’s new today? It’s the Sony Xperia SL, a super powerful smartphone featuring unbeatable 1.7 GHz Qualcomm 3 CPU, backed by Android ICS platform. Based on Sony Xperia S platform, as the looks reveal, Xperia SL proves to be a powerhouse considering the hardware changes which gives it an extra edge over the Xperia S smartphone. Luckily we at Gadgec got to see the official debut of the device in the cellular market.
While other competitive smartphones in the range are powered by 1 GHz- 1.5 GHz, Sony Xperia SL marks the beginning of a whole new revolution with 1.7 GHz Dual-Core QUALCOMM S3 CPU, bundled with two-Scorpian cores clocking at good 1.7 GHz. Surprisingly the device could be spotted a week earlier on Sony’s official website, however there is no further details on its availability in the market. Other features and configurations run parallel with the Sony Xperia S smartphone.
Sporting 4.3-inch Bravia-engine powered LCD screen, which is a 720p display, the smartphone gives you sheer HD display experience. Smartphone comes with a non-expandable 27.8 GB in-built memory support, a good 1 GB RAM, and the popular Adreno 220 GPU. There’s a 1.3 MP front camera for video calling services, and an appreciable 12.1 MP rear camera for capturing beautifully lit, high resolution still pictures, and video recording. The predecessor Sony Xperia S, which provides the main layout for Xperia SL is a powerful smartphone as well, however runs on an outdated OS, and the flaws of Xperia S are basically the roots of Sony Xperia SL smartphone. The screen is scratch-resistant TFT capacitive Touch-Screen, sporting a resolution of good 1280×720 pixels. Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich adds a star to the glory of this device, and a Jelly Bean upgrade can be expected soon.
Weighing about 144 g, the smartphone is easy to handle, and the engineers have made sure that it does not slip out of your hand. The 12.1 MP primary camera is capable of capturing photographs of resolution upto 4000×3000 pixels which gives Xperia SL an extra credit over other competitive smartphones in the market at present. The rear Camera is equipped with features such as Auto-Focus, Face-Detection, White-Balancing, LED flash, Geo-tagging, Image-stabilization, 3D sweep panorama. Videos can be recorded at 1080p, at a rate of 30-frames-per-second.
Further, Sony Xperia SL has been gifted with various sensors like accelerometer, gyro, proximity sensor, and compass. For location services, it is equipped with GPS and A-GPS.
Like other smartphones in the same range, Sony Xperia SL includes standard connectivity features like 86 Kbps GPRS, 237 Kbps Edge, high-speed HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot and Direct, DLNA, BlueTooth v2.1 with A2DP, EDR and NFC support, USB-on-the go support and last but not the least, MicroUSB v2.0 connector. The Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon Chipset is nicely bundled with the 1.7 GHz processor powered by 1 GB RAM and cool Adreno 220 GPU as mentioned earlier. The smartphone was earlier expected to be unveiled at the IFA-press conference earlier, however we can already see it officially on Sony’s website. The official announcement will commence on August 29 ‘2012, as reported by sources close to Sony.
