What else could you ask for, when one of the major mobile carrier in the United States is ready to unlock your under-contract, mind it, under-contract Apple iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S for free. Well, this is what I came across this morning, while going through my Twitter timeline. People have suddenly started reporting that they have got their iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S which was still under contract with AT&T, unlocked by them by filling out a simple unlocking request. Seems strange? We started digging up a bit!
We remember AT&T starting a free unlocking solution for those iPhone users who’s device was off-contract with them, and their account was cleared. However, soon the service which was very easy to claim when it started, took a turn when you were required to enter purchase details and other information of your device to the guys at AT&T to get your iPhone unlocked. Now since a lot of you were already using Gevey-powered iPhones, it was hard to gather the purchase information and AT&T valid account! Well, it’s good news for folks with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S all again, now you don’t even need an off-contract device. For instance, if you purchased an iPhone 4S last year on 2-year contract from AT&T, you can still request an unlock, and if all goes well AT&T will unlock your device in 2-3 business days.
All you need to do is, fill out this AT&T unlock form online and wait for their response. We have also seen a lot of requests being denied by AT&T, however we don’t yet know the reason for that. Here’s a response from some of the people who were able to get their devices unlocked using this request form.

I don’t think I ever recieved a confirmation email from them, I just happen to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1 and restored to a custom firmware and iTunes told me my iPhone was unlocked. Pretty sweet news considering I got my phone from craigslist.
A person at an At&t store said you just need to be 6 months into a contract with an iphone for it to be eligible for unlocking. I got it unlocked successfully by filling out the form. Yeiiiiiiiii!!
They unlocked mine over the phone. I purchased the phone separately through someone else’s account at the beginning of the year and my account is at the end of its term.
We see a lot of people giving us positive response on AT&T’s iPhone unlocking service. All you need to provide to them is the IMEI number of your device, and boom! It shall be unlocked within 2-3 business hours. We are soon going to try it out as soon as we get our hands on a locked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S, and let you know if it worked for us or not. Until then, keep subscribed!
