When we talk about an operating system for mobile devices, we already have two of the best of mobile OS in the market. On one hand is elegant iOS from Apple, and on the other side is developer-loved Android OS from Google. Well, seems like the mobile industry is now ready for an altogether new mobile operating system, yes the Firefox OS for mobile. Lying somewhere in between iOS and Android, we have got the first screenshots of the OS right here with us, right after the jump !

Driven by nothing but HTML 5, Mozilla’s Firefox OS is all set to hit the mobile industry, and to us, it looks like a hybrid of Android and iOS.   The news came some time back when the OS was under development. Surprisingly, it has received strong positive support from mobile carriers and few of its interface and app images have surfaced on the internet.

While the OS seems to have borrowed features and utilities from iOS and Android, it knows when and how to draw line to establish its own identity. The OS appears distinctive from iOS and Android, and contains everything you expect from a smart-phone, including text, phone and contact management. The interface looks calm and user friendly, while the apps sit right on grid on the main menu. Being the first of its kind, of course we can’t expect it to compete with Android Jelly Bean or iOS 6, but Mozilla claims that it is faster and lighter than Android OS.

The Firefox OS devices are being said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors which might improve upon performance as new and better chips emerge in the market.
