The only thing infuriating about Apple products is that the operating system they use is encrypted, which is why you need to use iTunes before you can actually transfer data to and from your iPhone, iPods or iPads. Well, seems like the jailbreak community has finally come up with an alternative, and now you don’t actually require iTunes on your Windows or Mac to transfer content, specially music files to your iDevice. Sounds interesting? Here’s more, right after the jump below.

How To Add Music/Videos To iPhone/iPod/iPad Without iTunes

Bridge is an all new jailbreak tweak, developed by the members of our beloved jailbreak community and serves the purpose of importing music files directly from your computer to your device’s music library without the need of having iTunes installed on your computer. Unfortunately, Bridge is limited to users having a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, so in case you are one of them, Bridge is the right thing for you at the moment. The built in file browser lets you access files on your computer by simply entering the URL or path to the file in the app. In short, bridge can locate downloaded media files on your device, and add them to respective library without the need of having iTunes.

Now, music is not the only thing Bridge can be used for. Bridge also lets you transfer downloaded YouTube videos via the developers other tweak- ProTube 2, directly into the video library. Developed by Jonas Gessner, ProTube 2 will let you download YouTube videos directly on your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, while Bridge will legally transfer them to your iDevice video library. We are more than satisfied with both of these tweaks, where we have been using ProTube 2 for over six months now, and the performance is flawless.

Once you download and transfer the media to your iDevice library, Bridge lets you enter meta data like song name, artist name etc. so that it can be filtered in future using in-built Music app features. There’s one downside to this app, i.e you cannot transfer the downloaded media to your computer by syncing your device to iTunes. Well, this is not really a drawback of this app, but of iTunes which doesn’t let user-downloaded media surf back to the computer. In short, Bridge lets you:

  • Successfully import any media file stored on your iDevice directly to the respecive library.
  • Download music and videos directly from the web, and add them to device library.
  • You can also preview music or videos before you actually transfer them to the library.
  • Choose the destination library. For instance, you can select Music,Video,Podcast,Ringtone category for a particular media file.

With this app available for users having jailbroken iDevice, there’s not much importance of iTunes left, as the tweak tends to bridge the gap between media files and your device library. The tweak is available under the BigBoss repo in the Cydia app store for $1.99 USD, but it’s worth the money for sure. Let us know your views via the comments section below.
